Prevention, Control & Remission: Can Allergens Alter the Course of Atopic Dermatitis

At AAAAI 2027 | Date: Thursday, February 18, 2027 | Time: TBA

New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Co-Chairs: Jeff Yu, Marcella Aquino

Session Description
This session explores atopic dermatitis from risk reduction through long-term disease control, highlighting the science and practical decisions that shape patient outcomes. Presentations will examine how early-life environmental and food exposures inform disease risk and prevention strategies. The program then shifts to management, including the evidence for allergen immunotherapy and clinical clues that distinguish concomitant allergic contact dermatitis. A pro/con debate will tackle whether “remission” is achievable—and how to define it—followed by a panel on building effective multidisciplinary derm/allergy clinics.

Measurable Learning Objectives

  1. List early-life environmental exposures that increase atopic dermatitis risk and others that may be protective.
  2. Determine the clinical features that should prompt consideration of allergic contact dermatitis in a patient with atopic dermatitis—and the need for patch testing.
  3. Define “remission” in atopic dermatitis and how to distinguish remission from well-controlled disease.
